A Car Factory? Ep. 2
The day leading up to the show at the Ford Plant was spent playing music and (badly) recording some songs. I mean, we taped a microphone to the ceiling for better pick up, pure genius. So, we already had suffered an aural pounding, little did we know that we would be forced by the cruel bands that would follow to endure more. Of course, I use "suffer" and "endure" in the most positive sense.
So Isaac, Scott, Nolan, Matt, and I arrived at the Ford Plant around 9:00 I guess, not quite sure. Terence was already there. Apparently he had been waiting for us for a while, yet he never bothered to ask us when we'd be going in the first place. We went inside the FP and we saw about half of the Kimwipes set. It was two young guys with acoustic guitars singing humourous songs. I personally did not find them too enjoyable, though I know that Matt and Nolan really liked them. It just bothered me that they played the same guitar, the same chords, and sang the same notes. There was no sense of harmonizing, it bothered me. The best song they played was when they did a cover of a Flight of the Conchords song. Honestly, I was glad when they finished, I was goddamned hungry.
First we had to drop by KFC so Isaac could get his sandwiches, after which we presently traveled to the Imperial and I bought myself a hamburger. It was delicious. Speaking of delicious, inside the Imperial we saw Forms and Logs, a one man noise act. He has awesome sideburns.
We quickly made our way back to the Ford Plant. We got there just in time to get a nice spot at the front to see the Superfantastics. I've seen them once before, also at the Ford Plant, and they were quite entertaining. But tonight, they were even better. The drummer was hitting her kit like it was an angry bear trying to devour her legs. The guitarist melted each and every one of our faces. I was blown away. Every song interested me, I was enthralled. It seemed as if everyone in the room felt exactly the same. I think they did. After every song the room erupted into clapping and shouting. The Superfantastics seemed surprised, they mentioned that they love the Ford Plant, but that night made them love it more. After the last song, the audience was left craving more, which is good, because the next band certainly delivered.
I had heard some Immaculate Machine before going to this show. I mean, months ago. They never really piqued my interest. It sounded like run-of-the-mill indie pop to me. Yet, this show proved me wrong, really fucking wrong. The singers sang sweetly, the guitar twinkled and crashed, and the drummer was absolutely nuts. Immaculate Machine seemed just as surprised as the Superfantastics, maybe even more. We even got them to do an encore, the drummer replied "You guys are good," as the band filed back on stage for a more subdued closer. For me, the highlight of that set was an incredible cover of Final Fantasy's This is the Dream of Win and Regine.
We all left with ringing in our ears and merch in our hands. It was an incredible night that showed the return of the attractive indie chicks, the beauty of live music, and Isaac's deep feelings for a certain drummer.
