A Car Factory? Ep. 2

The day leading up to the show at the Ford Plant was spent playing music and (badly) recording some songs. I mean, we taped a microphone to the ceiling for better pick up, pure genius. So, we already had suffered an aural pounding, little did we know that we would be forced by the cruel bands that would follow to endure more. Of course, I use "suffer" and "endure" in the most positive sense.
So Isaac, Scott, Nolan, Matt, and I arrived at the Ford Plant around 9:00 I guess, not quite sure. Terence was already there. Apparently he had been waiting for us for a while, yet he never bothered to ask us when we'd be going in the first place. We went inside the FP and we saw about half of the Kimwipes set. It was two young guys with acoustic guitars singing humourous songs. I personally did not find them too enjoyable, though I know that Matt and Nolan really liked them. It just bothered me that they played the same guitar, the same chords, and sang the same notes. There was no sense of harmonizing, it bothered me. The best song they played was when they did a cover of a Flight of the Conchords song. Honestly, I was glad when they finished, I was goddamned hungry.
First we had to drop by KFC so Isaac could get his sandwiches, after which we presently traveled to the Imperial and I bought myself a hamburger. It was delicious. Speaking of delicious, inside the Imperial we saw Forms and Logs, a one man noise act. He has awesome sideburns.
We quickly made our way back to the Ford Plant. We got there just in time to get a nice spot at the front to see the Superfantastics. I've seen them once before, also at the Ford Plant, and they were quite entertaining. But tonight, they were even better. The drummer was hitting her kit like it was an angry bear trying to devour her legs. The guitarist melted each and every one of our faces. I was blown away. Every song interested me, I was enthralled. It seemed as if everyone in the room felt exactly the same. I think they did. After every song the room erupted into clapping and shouting. The Superfantastics seemed surprised, they mentioned that they love the Ford Plant, but that night made them love it more. After the last song, the audience was left craving more, which is good, because the next band certainly delivered.
I had heard some Immaculate Machine before going to this show. I mean, months ago. They never really piqued my interest. It sounded like run-of-the-mill indie pop to me. Yet, this show proved me wrong, really fucking wrong. The singers sang sweetly, the guitar twinkled and crashed, and the drummer was absolutely nuts. Immaculate Machine seemed just as surprised as the Superfantastics, maybe even more. We even got them to do an encore, the drummer replied "You guys are good," as the band filed back on stage for a more subdued closer. For me, the highlight of that set was an incredible cover of Final Fantasy's This is the Dream of Win and Regine.
We all left with ringing in our ears and merch in our hands. It was an incredible night that showed the return of the attractive indie chicks, the beauty of live music, and Isaac's deep feelings for a certain drummer.

Holy Wow.

Holy wow indeed guys. I am currently writing this post immediately after arriving home after going out to the movies with some of out good friends. I'm mostly here, not to review the movie or talk about the movie but, to talk about the most euphoric feeling I am having right now. First of all this feeling started, I'm pretty sure after seeing one of the best movies our group has seen in theatres yet, Be Kind, Rewind. This movie delivered laughs, good cinematography, awesome story, and also more great laughs. All around very good and the most satisfied I bet we have ever been walking out of a movie theatre together. Others may review fully if they want to.
The continuation of the euphoric level that I am currently at escalated, I believe, when it became extremely foggy on the way back home. The fog was so thick you couldn't see 10 feet in front of you. This fog made everything give off an very "luminous", as Rob called it, effect of the lights in town. After dropping Matt and then Lucas off my mission was to get out to Canning and drop off Rob. This was quite an adventure since it was so foggy but, ultimately very easy, we just went slow and whatever enjoyed the ride. It was on the way back in which my euphoria really kicked in and I started to notice it. On the way back into town I was listening to "Mercy" by Plants and Animals, a band that we had just recently seen play at the ford plant and bought their albums. Around the 3 minute mark in the song it just becomes so chill and I really started to feel the effects. As I was approaching town I realized that my mom had asked me to get gas for her, as she was to drive the car to work the next morning and it was almost at 'E'. This memory did not cause me to be pissed off or annoyed. Instead it made me happy because the only gas station that I was positive would be open was Pioneer all the way across town. I knew that I immediately was fine with that and was so up for it. I was looking forward to seeing the beautiful colors and lights of downtown with the fog. Night driving is relaxing enough for me and I love when the streets are empty, but when the streets are empty and quiet plus there is an abundance of fog to create beautiful images of light as there was tonight, I was in heaven. As I drove past the school and hit that certain part of Mercy again, as I was now listening to the song on repeat, I thought, "oh wow, what a great moment, I shall capture this on video as to capture its beauty." So I whipped out my camera and captured this:

Euphoric Moment from Tricowinc on Vimeo.
After I had gotten the gas and was still on my high I returned home through town once again, loving every second of it.

What the Whythe Are You Doing?

Yes, terrible names for posts are pretty cool, but that's not why I'm here. I am hear (wait that's not proper grammar! No, but it's foreshadowing!) to tell about a new spiff-tacular band called Whythe. As of yet, the bands members include Matt Thomson, Lucas Thurston, Nolan Fox, Aric Oliver, and Isaac Springal, or at least that's what Last.fm tells me.
You may be asking why I'm replicating a post that Matt did a while ago. Well, it's because we changed our name! Also, Matt and I had a recording session in his house today! So, I present to you Acoustic Jam! (Link) I played the acoustic guitar and the keyboard, and Matt played the bongos and keyboard. Lydia Thomson, Matt's younger sister made background noise because she was sitting over there (---->) which actually sounded cool. Oh, and Bounce barked during "Nature Dog".
It was pretty fun to make actually. All the songs were made on the spot, nearly all improvised, especially the vocals (for that I apologize). I think it would be really interesting to record every time parts of the band meet up, I mean, that way we could demonstrate a progression. So, I guess you should expect more rough recordings.
Also, to be a selfish jerk who plugs himself, I shall be recording some experimental music under the moniker of On-We. I'm probably going to be leaning towards a mix of shoegaze, harsh noise, and acoustic music. I know, weird combination!
Anyways, enjoy the lo-fi listening, and yeah, whatever, don't stop trucking.

Iissaaaaccss Ppaarrttyy Cont'd

5) Just wait for Isaac to put up videos on facebook, since it was a week ago this happened

but here goes (SORRY REG YOUR EXCELLENT LONG POST IS GOING DOWN A *LITTLE* BIT in terms of main page space): after whatever i said last, there was a late night walk at 3, which we performed various lipdubs (one starring nolan, one with me as main focus i think). after that we played N for a billion years, and we played rock band for another billion, and the funny part was when reid was singing. he is hilarious whilst sleep deprived. anyways, in the morning we watched rocket robin hood and fat albert which are terrible and should never be watched ever and dont tell me i should watch them for some inherent cultural value because there is none whatsoever and dont tell me i cant run a sentence on for this long because it is supposedly grammatically incorrect i dont care because at least i can spell right you jerk dont act all condescending towards me fine ill end it.

so yeah thats the night finally, im sure if someone wants to embellish they can

A Car Factory? An epic series about the Ford Plant. Ep. 1

Hi! It's Lucas! You may recognize me from such posts as The Indigo Parsnip. Anyways, that's not the reason why I am here. I've come to write about the Ford Plant, and the exciting shows I see. The Ford Plant is a place where people play music in downtown Brantford. It's run by Tim Ford and friends, hence the name Ford Plant. They have metal and punk shows, but the ones that are advertised, and are good are the indie shows.
So, on Friday, February 29th (the day that shouldn't exist) Matt, Isaac, and I braved the cold and traveled to the shit-hole that is Brantford. Seriously, Brantford is disgusting and depressing, but the Ford Plant is a shining light of toe-tapping, tousled hair, and tight trousers. We drive up to parking lot, get our ticket, and head to the crowded doorway. The first band, Plants and Animals, is setting up, so Isaac leads us to KFC so he can use his free coupon for some free hobo...er...chicken.
Anyways, the first thing I see is this old drunk talking to this girl, whom I've seen at the FP quite often. She doesn't seem to be enjoying it, but he stops and waddles off somewhere. That leaves Isaac, Matt, and I. Isaac order, Matt berates KFC for sucking, blah blah blah. Suddenly, this one guy (who I've also seen at the FP, Annie's boyfriend? I dunno) runs in, bent over trying to be sly and stealthy. He runs up to the drink cooler, opens it up, and nabs some juice. He spins around and darts out the side exit. Mind you, this happened in about 5 seconds, we couldn't stop it. Also, fuck it, it's KFC...in Brantford. Wait, wasn't there some other guy in there! He was standing right behind us! What the fuck was he doing? He was in a better position to stop him! What a jerk! Moving on, as the thieft was running away he dropped one of the juice bottles, it landed on its cap and opening in a torrent of juice and plastic. Juice went everywhere. Guy behind us, Isaac, Matt, and I just looked at the spill in a manner of "well...that's a shame...". Oddly enough, Isaac wasn't upset that they just stole some juice. He was more upset that the guy dropped the bottle on its cap. You may be wondering why so far this is about KFC. It's because we were in there for-fucking-ever! What is wrong with KFC that they can't make a sandwich? As we make our way out, we see the drunk old guy from earlier passed out cold on one of the tables. Isaac looks through his brown bag and puts all the food in his pockets, save for the fries he left for Matt and I. We left the bag, forsaken and alone on one of the tables. I wonder if the old man took the wet naps...
We trudge back to the Ford Plant, on the way Matt tried to feed fries to some guy. As we got to the door Matt realized that the person he just assaulted with fries was not Meric after all. So we get in, I guess, on the first song by Plants and Animals. I was struck by how well they sounded. I mean this band really blew me away! The songs were extremely well written, and never boring. They were epic and full of emotion, but somehow, still danceable. Unfortunately we were standing at the back, but I'm tall so whatever. Their set closed with an epic piece, and it left the crowd with an unexpected sense of fulfillment. They really should have closed that show instead of starting it. We exited the room where the band was packing up and met the bassist/guitarist/keyboardist for some merch. It was expensive, and I could only afford an EP called with/avec. It is ridiculously good. Of course, we were excited for the next band.
I remember back in August when I first went to the Ford Plant, it was to see Raccoon Wedding. Tyler Cote and Kim were all, "Lucas. come along it'll be fun. It's Isaac's brother's band's first show!" At this point I didn't know Isaac really well, but I went anyways. I really liked Raccoon Wedding, and I have seen them about 4 times now. I've heard their songs progress throughout those shows. Really, all I can say is: They played, they rocked, I liked them, trumpets are cool, Tim's voice is growly, and Isaac's brother has a sexy bass. Oh, oh, oh, there was this girl infront of us, she was very hippy-esque. I started singing Nightmare Hippy Girl by Beck in my head. Then I had it in my head the day after, and I'm to fucking crazy about that song. Damn you hippy girl!
After the Wed finished, the D'Ubervilles played. None of us were really up for the last set. We were tired. Matt did a nuts dance though. It was awesome, he followed some people out the door at one pointjuh (my cat stepped on the keyboard, I decided to leave it). Also, Matt was staring at this red light and Isaac was taking pictures of him. It looked like he was staring at this lady's can though. Heeheehee. The D'Ubervilles, from what I heard, weren't bad, but I wasn't to crazy about them. I think Matt liked them more than Isaac and I.
Matt and Isaac may notice that I left out some things. The drunk guy that kept hugging Matt, the deal that happened with Danielle and Annie (whatever the hell that was), and the surprising amount of very attractive (at least in my opinion) indie chicks. It seemed that they were always two rows of people up. Not that any of us would have danced (sexed?) with them anyways. Oh, and Tim Ford was pretty damn sexy too.

P.S. I plan to write something like this everytime I go! Woo! Posts!
